You have probably known for years that some foods can be bad for your teeth. Growing up, were you told not to eat too many candies or your teeth would fall out? Or if you wanted strong bones you needed to drink lots of milk? We want you to know that there are some foods that are good for your dental health.
While milk could help you to have strong bones, dairy products can have many more benefits for your teeth. Cheese can help you in fighting off cavities because it can lower the acid levels in your mouth and stimulate your saliva production. Saliva helps to naturally clean your mouth of food particles. Sugar-free gum and candy may have similar results with regards to your saliva.
Almonds can provide calcium and protein and other nuts and seeds like pumpkin and sunflower seeds, cashews, pecans and walnuts could also be beneficial. You could enjoy these on their own or they can be mixed in with a salad or other meal and snack options.
Fruits and vegetables can also help make your mouth healthier. Many of these, like apples, carrots, celery etc., can also promote saliva production in your mouth on top of other beneficial qualities they may have. Leafy greens, like kale, are rich in calcium which can help strengthen the enamel on your teeth.
