A comprehensive dental exam is a portion of your dental check up appointments. In fact, it’s provided after your dental cleaning. To help you know a little more about this portion of your upcoming dental appointment so you can know what to expect in the dental chair, our dental team is happy to share some information with you.
When your dental cleaning is completed, one of our experienced dentists, Dr. Erika Johnston or Dr. Peter Rosenman, will come into the treatment room to visit with you. While you’re catching up, they will examine your entire mouth, including the teeth, gums, and underlying bone (this is possible because of dental X-rays). While your dentist is performing the examination, they will look for any signs of dental issues, like tooth decay and gum disease. For a precaution, they will also perform an oral cancer screening. This will help you catch the cancer at the early stages.
This part of the appointment can help you more than you think it can, especially because it can help you treat issues that aren’t quite visible to the naked eye. This can be said for small cracks in the teeth that get bigger and bigger with pressure. If our dentist sees the small crack, they can treat it before it gets worse.
